Notre Dame Basilica

NOTRE DAME BASILICA

Notre-Dame de la Garde or Our Lady of the Guard, is a Catholic basilica in Marseille, France. This Neo-Byzantine church was built by the architect Henri-Jacques Espérandieu on the foundations of an ancient fort. The fort was located at the highest natural elevation in Marseille, a 149 m (490 ft) limestone outcrop on the south side of the Old Port of Marseille. It is one of the most important important local landmark.

PERSONAL OPINION
With no fear to be wrong, We can say that this is one of the most beautiful monuments that I have ever seen in my life.

The Cathedral is in the highest part of a hill, you will have to climb for arround one hour until you reach the Basilica, but it worth the price.

The Neo-Bizantine Cathedral is praised with a image of the Vigin Mary of arround 11 meters. It's huge!!!

This Cathedral is also beautiful inside, with a lot of colorful paintings and stained glasses. The entrance to the Church is free, but you pay it climbing that hill ;)

It is really far but in the other hand is one of the best things that you can visit on marseille.

Also you can take there by Touristic Train, you can take it on the Vieaux Port, and for arround 7 euros it will do all the route (go and return) a part from the Basilica, it also shows you all the coast, where you can see things like the Frioul islands.

Once you are in the Cathedral, you can take the return train every 20 minutes. this is an esay way to take here, if you dont want to take all the way to the Basilica, and We think that it worths the price.
